We will be spending each day in the month of July reading a portion of the book of John. Read the scripture text for the day and then share a comment about it in the comments section. We look forward to interacting with one another as we allow the Word of God to speak to us.
27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her? 28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, 29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? 30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. 32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. 33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? 34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. 35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. 36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. 37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. 38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours. 39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. 40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his own word; 42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.
43 Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee. 44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country. 45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast. 46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. 48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. 49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. 50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. 51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. 52 Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. 53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house. 54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.
Jesus who is all knowing is intentional to perform the miracle as He knows each individual needs to build their faith
29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? 30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
The woman at the well is not someone that most people in the city would have associated, but they still heard her and came to see what she spoke of. The person everyone may think might not be all that might be the very person that saves an entire city!
46-54 Shows us that Gods power is so miraculous that Jesus didn’t have to lay hands on or even be in the same place as the nobleman’s son to heal him. He just spoke the words “Go thy way; thy son liveth.” We don’t have to see miracles, signs and wonders to know that God saves, heals, delivers and sets free from any kind of circumstances. Granted being a witness to Gods power is truly an amazing experience and gives us the opportunity to praise Him in those moments.
The reason this portion of scripture sticks out to me is because God has healed me from pain right here in my own home without anyone laying hands on me or even knowing i needed prayer. I just asked “God please take this pain!” and He did! If only we could keep that mindset at all times. When we need something from God, He’s there willing and able. We just need to have faith and trust and believe he will and can do it!!
John 4:36-39 The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the planter and the harvester alike! You know the saying, ‘One plants and another harvests.’ And it’s true. I sent you to harvest where you didn’t plant; others had already done the work, and now you will get to gather the harvest.”Many Samaritans from the village believed in Jesus because the woman had said, “He told me everything I ever did!”
The seed was planted and Philip would reap the harvest in Acts 8. The Lord said, “what joy awaits the planter and the harvester.” In Acts 8:8 “So there was great joy in that city.” Whether we are the planters or the harvester. Let us rejoice over the increase that God gives.
From Thirst to Hunger
The disciples were hungry and they looked for Jesus to eat with them, but he was no where to be found, so they went looking for him. And when they found him,he was outside of the city still teaching. He has yet to have anything to eat( naturally)
31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
The disciples wondered why Jesus was not hungry, but they were.
Spiritual food was primary to Jesus. (He was teaching the word ) Food came secondary because he was spiritual and natural.
I pray that I always hunger and thirst after God.
I love how Jesus didn’t racial profile anyone, he didn’t treat anyone like a second class citizen, he approached the Samaritan even though she was a woman and women were not treated equally to men back in the day. He called her out on her past but didn’t make her feel ashamed, only God can do that
One thing that stands out to me in this passage is vs. 34, “ 34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.”
The very thing that sustained Him was no other that fulfilling the will of the kingdom. I wonder sometimes if we are weak sometimes because of the lack of involvement in the kingdom.
Jesus was operating w a kingdom mindset in the mundane routine of this woman. What if we took up the same mindset?
In verse 42, the Samaritan’s told the Samaritan woman that they believed not only because she had told them about Jesus, but because they had seen it for themselves. Had it not been for the woman stepping out and speaking about his greatness, the Samaritan’s might not have ever known about our Savior. This encourages me to tell others about Jesus and all of his great works so they can come see it for themselves.
; 42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.
Before this many more believed because of what the women said but many people had to see it for themselves. People can hear about how much God loves but until they actually feel the power of His presence they might not believe it
If we have faith in the God with no limits for all things amazing things will happen! They didn’t have to lay hands on the son for God to work!
The woman left her water pot behind after interacting with Jesus. She found a new purpose and it became more important than the need that she originally had. Finding Jesus reveals our purpose and places our need in its proper position in our life.
Gods presence is so powerful May we always strive for that in our everyday life. Inviting Him to walk daily with us. A great honor not to be taken lightly
