We will be spending each day in the month of July reading a portion of the book of John. Read the scripture text for the day and then share a comment about it in the comments section. We look forward to interacting with one another as we allow the Word of God to speak to us.
48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? 49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me. 50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth. 51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. 52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. 53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? 54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: 55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. 57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? 58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. 59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
9 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. 4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. 6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, 7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
8 The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? 9 Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he. 10 Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened? 11 He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight. 12 Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.
ohn 8:58 Jesus said to them, “I tell you the solemn truth, before Abraham came into existence, I am!”
He clearly declares that He is GOD in the flesh, yet they could not receive it. Their hypocrisy and traditions was greater than revelation.
3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
People like to blame sin or even the Devil when things are going wrong, but more likely those things happen to glorify God so you can be a witness to someone else of what God has done for you!
7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
That man heeded the word just as we talked about on Sunday. There was no ground shaking and heavens ripping open, just a man who needed God and was obedient to the word of God. He was probably confused, Jesus told him to go and the man was blind how was he supposed to know where He was going or if he was going the right way. The man didn’t seem to care he just sent and literally walked by faith and not by sight 😂😂
Sight is received through obedience. If we want to see things we have never seen before then we have to follow his instructions as closely as possible.
Jesus told the disciples that the man was blind not because of his sins or his family’s sins, but so that the power of God could be seen in him. So many times people question why things have happened to them and that God deserted them. But when we read this scripture we can understand that the power of God wants to move in our lives, we just have to have the right perspective.
Jesus sure told them! Jesus has so much compassion for mankind His attitude remains intact as he ministers to a human need. God will be glorified! May He always find us in tune his work here on earth towards mankind so he maybe glorified in us!
Verse 58 speaks to the oneness of God. “…Before Abraham was, I am.” He was trying to help them understand who He was but they still would’ve receive Him. Verse 41 from yesterday they told Jesus they had 1 father so they knew there is 1 God and Jesus told them a little later in the conversation that He was there before Abraham. He is God, He robed Himself in flesh and came to save them but they had no relationship with God so they couldn’t see Him right in front of their faces.
The miracle with the blind man is interesting. Jesus had made him blind knowing that He would come to the man and make him complete. It makes me think of people who have been born with something like this and have questioned if there is a God because if so why would He make me like this? But God created them and I would give the same answer to the people who think that “…the works of God should be made manifest in him.” This also gives me a different perspective when seeing someone born with a deformity. God is wanting to do a miracle in them. And it wasn’t a prayer that healed him but rather God gave him instruction on what to do and through his faith in obedience he was healed.
The disciples judge this blind man and assume he was blind due to his own sin or his parents, but that was not the case.
God allowed this man to be blind so that he could do a miraculous work in him so that God would be glorified.
°Through his obedience he was healed.
°He went forth to spread the good news. ” I was blind, now I see.”
We must glorify God in everything we do.
